Chromobacterium violaceum, a gram negative facultatively anaerobic bacillus, although a rare human pathogen, is increasingly gaining importance, particularly because of its multidrug resistance and ability to rapidly progress to fatal sepsis with multi organ failure. Ciprofloxacin remains the most effective antibiotic, in vitro. A high index of suspicion and appropriate antibiotic treatment can help in reducing the mortality. A case of successful treatment of C. violaceum in a 62-year-old male from North India along with a review of literature has been described in this paper.
